News Flash: All That Glimmers Is Glass
Rippling cups, swirled candleholders—when product designer Sophie Lou Jacobsen’s whimsical wares grace a table, the mood is guaranteed to be fizzy and light. But sit-down affairs are only one kind of gathering. For her latest collection, Jacobsen thought less dinner, more dance floor.

Unveiled at Milan’s iconic Salone del Mobile design fair last week, the 14-piece capsule is informed by Jacobsen’s frequent trips to Italy and her fascination with ’70s and ’80s discotheque culture. “I was imagining the kind of disco party I wanted to throw—something glitzy and glamorous, recalling the golden age of clubbing, but for today,” she says. That’s when the name, Disco Aperitivo, came to her. “I knew I wanted to build a collection around it.”

Glassware dotted with tiny Swarovski crystals is the crown jewel of the collection. There are plates and bowls primed for cradling small bites; sweetly flared Aperitivo Glasses best suited for lighter spirits; and a Nick & Nora set for martini devotees. A light-reflecting ashtray can double as a key catchall once everyone heads home. While glass continues to be Jacobsen’s central medium, metal—particularly high-shine enameled copper (below right)—is on display a bigger way than in any of her previous launches. It isn’t a disco without a little shimmer, after all.
